Know the MSRP before you shop

Where retail stock turns up
Pokémon Center sells at MSRP and is the only place to get the Pokémon Center ETB. Drops sell fast, so use the queue and account alerts instead of refreshing.
Target, Walmart, Best Buy usually hold MSRP and restock in waves. Store apps and in-stock alerts beat driving around.
Local game stores often sell at or near MSRP and hold stock for regulars. Ask when their next allocation arrives and whether they keep a hold list.

eBay and TCGplayer are current-ask markets. They make sense for singles once the asks settle, but paying over sticker for sealed product that's still restocking at retail rarely does.
How to read an eBay current ask
A current ask is what a seller is asking, not what anyone paid. Our tracked eBay runs report the median current ask and the listing count for each product:
- Dispatch 01 — Value map: what each product holds, pull rate by pull rate.
- Dispatch 02 — Classic Collection list: every reprint card and which ones collectors chase.
- Dispatch 03 — Open or hold: MSRP per pack and the sealed-versus-open decision tree.
- Dispatch 06 — Second eBay run: dated current asks and listing counts for every tracked product.
If a product shows fewer than 5 listings, we mark it thin data rather than publish a number. Treat any single listing as noise.
The four rules
1. A current ask is not a sold price. Before paying a premium, check eBay's sold filter or TCGplayer's sales history.
2. Restocks run through December. New products keep landing, so a pre-Christmas "last chance" is marketing.
3. Compare against MSRP, not against other asks. $70 isn't a deal on a $49.99 ETB just because someone else is asking $90.
4. Set alerts, don't refresh. Retail drops open and close in minutes, so alerts beat manual checking.
